I haven't posted for a long time due to a very crazy month. Jake was gone to Georgia for 3 1/2 weeks and shortly after he got home, I rushed home to St. George to be with my daddy as he underwent open heart surgery again to replace his artificial heart valve.
I packed up the kids and I in a couple hours and was on the road about 7:30 pm to try and make it to Idaho Falls by morning to meet up with Kayla and Kami. I was an emotional wreck. I had been for weeks prior due to my dad's condition. I was so uneasy with the whole thing and needed to be home with him and my mom. All of my family was able to make it home.
About 2 hours into my drive my van started having problems. I was so desperate to make it home that I pushed the van as far as possible. Kami had caught a ride with some friends from North Dakota and was also meeting up in Idaho Falls. She was supposed to be taking the 200 down into IF instead of hitting the I15 but, thanks to a tender mercy from my Heavenly Father, they took a wrong turn and ended up in Dillion where I was stuck with the kids.
Since the trip was so last minute I hadn't budgeted for the trip and didn't have any money. I wasn't able to pay for a hotel room but I stopped into the lobby of one to ask borrow a blanket for a couple hours. It was about 5 am and I just needed to sleep until the repair shop opened at 7:30. Because I couldn't run the engine, we were all getting really cold. But, the clerk at the hotel gave us a room for free so I could put the kids to bed. I was so thankful to her. She was so wonderful and offered to help in any way. She even gave me her home phone number.
So, I was able to get an hour of sleep when Kami called and said she was coming. It was such a relief, and my taxes came in the morning so I had money to pay for my room and fix my van. Well, the hotel still wouldn't let me pay and I was so thankful.
So I took my van to the mechanics and they said it wouldn't make it to Idaho Falls. They were surprised it made it as far as it did without seizing the engine. The oil pump was out and was not letting any oil into the engine. So, I left the van and we rented a car to get home.
Kami, Kayla and I were able to make it to St. George that night about 8 pm and we all celebrated in my dad's hospital room with a pizza party. We had a fun time all together and then went home for a very un restful night. Dad went into surgery about 6 am the next day.
We spent that morning in the waiting room just waiting for updates and news of the surgery. When the Dr. came out and told us the surgery was successful and dad was stable we were all relieved. He showed us the old valve. That was pretty cool.
It was a hard couple days but on the 15th my daddy was able to come home after over 3 weeks in the hospital. I was able to stay with them for a week or so later. I was so grateful for this time with him and my mom.
So I headed home to get my van and stayed with Melinda and her family in Idaho. It was fun to see them and there new house. It is beautiful!!! The next morning I called the repair shop and they said my van would be done around noon. So, I arrived about 12:30 only to be told it may not be today. I had turned in my car and was stranded with two kids, no car, and no money.
We just hung out in the waiting room all day hoping and praying the van would get done. I was so emotionally and physically exhausted. I just wanted to be home so bad. Katie had missed two weeks of school, and it had been so long since I had seen Jake and needed his support.
Well, just like everything else, there was problems with the van after they got it all put back together. The manager explained they had to take it all apart again. But, they put me in a loaner car from the car lot and sent me home. I was so grateful to be home but wished this whole ordeal was over.
The roads were awful and I was so tired, but the kids and i made it home about 11 pm that night, just in time to be safe and warm while an major storm rolled in.
So, my van is finally done and they are going to bring it to me and pick up there car after the roads clear up. I am thankful for that because I don't want to drive anymore for a long time.
Well, that was my wonderful trip home. I was thankful to be there and spend some good time with my dad and mom, but I am glad to be home with my family too.
